Old Highway 25 Park

July 19, 2020

After several months of social distancing it was good to get to take a trip to see our grandchildren in Heber Springs. Much of our summer camping plans were impacted by the Covid 19 pandemic which forced closure of all our favorite COE and state parks. We were able to return to Old Highway 25 Park in Loop G on a Sunday for three nights. We reserved site G16 which was not one of our preferred sites but nonetheless was shaded with a partial view of Greers Ferry Lake. It was hot Arkansas summer with 90+ degree days with some relief from a nice breeze off the lake.

On Monday morning Donna and I grabbed the beach umbrella and sand chairs then headed for the park swim beach. I wasn't exactly the Emerald Coast but we had a great morning.
Shortly after noon Addie, Zoey and Lily came to visit. With Addie driving they were able to come visit without their mom and dad. Matt and Sarah came later with their kayaks and dinner.
On Tuesday morning Matt, Sarah, the girls and I went for a kayak adventure on the lake.  We paddled around the loop G point before the lake got too hot or busy. I got to try Sarah's sit-in kayak first and later swapped with Matt to tryout his sit-on kayak. I've been bitten by the kayak bug for some time now and think it would be an easy way to get out on the water when we travel with the camper. We just would need a rack on the camper or the truck to haul them.
Unable to throw a big party due to the Covid 19 we had a small family gathering for Donna's 60th birthday. I cooked some burgers on the grill and peach cobler in the dutch oven. It was the first time to use the dutch oven and it turned out pretty good.  Matt and Sarah supplied a birthday cake.

We got to see the girls again on Wednesday afternoon before packing up for Russellville just ahead of some incoming rain. We enjoyed a safe trip home over the back roads to Morrilton.
